MALAMPUZHA DAM:
DESTINATION TOURISM
- A growing number of travelers want their journeys to be less invasive and more beneficial to the local community.
- They want to better understand the culture of people they meet in the places they visit.
- Or put another way, properly planned and executed destinations create better places for people to live and better places to visit.
- Efforts that lack creativity along with growth indicators will make destinations less attractive.
DESTINATION DEVELOPMENT
- Objective of development shall be set in the context of broad economic, social, cultural and environmental objectives of the region/locality.
- Development activities should reflect and enhance the special qualities and characteristics of communities and the destination, special nature of existing attractions should be maintained and planning and design should reflect the special characteristics of the places.
- It should accommodate the principles of land stewardships maintained by traditional land owners.
- Actions to avert the negative consequences of tourism development.
- The tourism plan shall contain diversity of tourism experience opportunities by incorporating urban tourism attractions, facilities, services and amenities and basic infrastructure requirements such as roads, power, water, transport facilities, waste management system etc.
- The areas such as promotion of existing and proposed attractions in the regions, facilities to buy local crafts, souvenirs, and to acknowledge indigenous people shall be taken care of.
- Attempts should be made to maintain no or minimal impact, especially in respect of access to natural cultural and heritage attractions.
- Where special features or attractions exist they should become the foundation for niche market tourism as “unique selling points”.
- Any tourism activity proposed shall be controlled efficiently, for uncontrolled activities may cause degradation of the resources which originally attracted tourism in the area.
- Needs to be respectful to the restrictions and people’s privacy. Some people do not wish to be visited and some communities may be closed to visitors. In rural communities, wait until you are invited to approach homes or groups of people.
- Shall focus on building up a stronger identity and image for the region by growth of local tourism and associated business.
- Planning, design, and production of interpretive media such as guides, interpretive panels, exhibits, kiosks and audio/visual aids to assist in interpreting our unique historic, cultural, and natural attributes. The primary focus of the materials must be for interpretation purposes directed to a tourism audience.
